truck woe

when i closed down the apt in January, i realized i wasn't really up for drive/co-drive of the truck to Utah in winter conditions {at the time i knew i hurt and tired easily... but had no clue how bad of shape my sore neck was in!}

i made arrangements through a friend-of-a-friend to have my truck transported.  it was supposed to be easy, straightforward, quick, relatively-inexpensive.  drop off at an auction lot about 2 hours away from where i lived, 2 days to transport here, pick up at a dealership.

what an awful, AWFUL process it's turned out to be.  broken promises, flat-out lies, refusal to return my phone calls....  i guess i should be slightly mollified that i get a call-back these days, but it took me getting angry enough to threaten police/lawyer to get to that common courtesy level.

it's been the kindness of friends for this 6+ weeks since it was due here that has kept me sane and functional.  rides and borrowed wheels and jokes and shared frustration... and my lawyer friend promising she'd be willing to dive into a pissy civil lawsuit if one became necessary!!  thanks ladies! you made it so much better than it would have been if i'd tried to muddle through alone!

my truck is here. i have keys. it has been stripped of everything that made it legal to drive (no license, registration paperwork, insurance)...  along with all my personal bits and hundreds of dollars worth of prepaid maintenance in the glove-box...

i wasn't even surprised when the individual i've been dealing with was casual about that -- "oh. i didn't ask them to do that."

i also wasn't TOO surprised when his response to "and what do you suggest i do next!!?" was "drive it anyway...  if you get pulled over, explain they were stolen and you intend to go to the DMV tomorrow"  he had already confirmed that he didn't care a whit about how much he inconvenienced me!  no skin off his nose if i got a ticket too! perhaps that would be his choice and he'd try the good-ole-boy sweet-talk to only get a warning...

my choice is to go to DMV and get it legal, and then drive it.  and my choice is to never see this individual and remove him from my phone logs -- goodbye and good riddance!  and my choice is to work on forgiving my friend for having sleazeball business associates.  and my choice is to work on forgiving myself for thinking this was a good idea.

such a bad taste in my mouth!  too bad i can't blame chemo for it...

but i can move on, and so i shall.
